Literature Text

The door opens to a crowded room in a noisy inn
the men, they drink,
and do they shout
over the music's din.

In comes the stranger
with his kind eyes
and his cloak as dark as night
his boots are clean and shined,
and they are just as bright.

No one looks or stops to chat,
not one gentleman tips his hat
but the girl in the corner who watches unseen
with her pretty lips,
and her body slim and lean.
The stranger's eyes wander to hers
and she gives him a timid smile
and he, not as shy as she,
walks over to talk awhile.

He tells her the tales of the world and its splendor
the mountains, the ocean, the cities and such
and she wonders how he's seen so much
she's always wanted to travel afar
but she hasn't seen much more than her father's bar.

When his stories stop and he lets out a yawn,
he says he's leaving, tomorrow at dawn.
She's never met one so enchanting
and insists that he should stay,
but he admits he never stays anywhere longer than a day.
She'd like to leave with him, she says,
she'd like to see some places
she's sick of this little village,
she'd like to see new faces.

And though he thinks that no one he meets will ever hold his heart,
he agrees to take her with him and she can play the part.
She saw the mountains, the ocean, the cities
she saw the world and all it's splendor
and during this time he with his kind eyes
found what he'd been searching for,
this girl who wanted to go afar..
there was nothing but she he wanted more.
Really super old.
